LARMO organizes asset recovery workgroup in cooperation with Antiquities Authority.

The Libyan Asset Recovery and Management Office (LARMO) has run a workgroup in Brussels, Belgium, in cooperation with the Libyan Antiquities Authority (LAA). The workshop involved a series of interactive activities focusing on different mechanisms for the recovery of Libyan assets abroad, as well as displaced cultural property.

During the workshop, the team provided an overview of LARMO’s strategy to recover Libyan assets, artefacts and other property abroad. The closing session was held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in the presence of His Excellency, the Libyan Ambassador to the European Union, Jalal Al-Ashi.

H.E. Al-Ashi expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by LARMO and the LAA to restore the rights of Libyan citizens, commending LARMO’s achievement in recovering 56 million euros for the benefit of the Ministry of Interior.

The workshop also included a lengthy meeting at the Libyan Embassy in Brussels with representatives of the Belgian judicial and economic authorities, as well as representatives of several international organizations.
